What is the historical development of towels

The towel industry, as a sub-item of the home textile industry, has developed for many years in the country, towels and bedding are completely different, towel products as a stable market, consumers usually do not pay much attention to it, belong to low-value consumable products. Because people's living habits and quality of life have not been significantly improved with economic income, a considerable number of consumers in the purchase of towel products, there are still great differences in quality identification, price, purchase frequency.
The world's first towel was born in 1850, made in the United Kingdom, more than 170 years ago.
In 1912, China's first towel factory - Shanghai Sanyou Industrial Company Towel factory was born, it by China's famous patriotic industrialists Shen Jiucheng and his two fellow villagers Chen Wanyun, Fang Zhida three people "three friends cooperation" management, and take "industry to save the country" meaning, to "Sanyou Industrial company" as the name. When Shen Jiucheng saw that China's towel market had been monopolized by Japanese goods "iron anchor brand" for a long time, he began to make homemade towels and compete with them to regain the idea of China's towel market.
After the hard study of Mr. Shen Jiucheng and the technical staff of the factory, we finally produced high-quality towels with soft texture and durable wear. When giving the towel a trademark name, a "triangle" symbolizes three people sharing the same joys and sorrows, sharing hardships, and uniting together.
The historical origin of the towel:
The use of napkins has a long history. In the pre-Qin period, there was already a special textile name of "pa". Its specific meaning is "handkerchief", which people use to wipe sweat and clean their face. In the famous Han Yuefu folk song "Peacock flies Southeast", there is a description of "A woman is silent, her hand covers her mouth and cries". The towel here obviously refers to the handkerchief that wipes away tears. The official name of the handkerchief came from the Tang Dynasty. Wang Jian, a famous court lyricist in the early Tang Dynasty, once wrote a poem, "Get a red handkerchief with a pair of cicadas drawn in the center." In the Song Dynasty, there is also a saying that "wiping tears". Chinese ancient women used handkerchiefs as ornaments or a symbolic meaning. In the classical masterpiece "Dream of Red Mansions", which we are most familiar with, handkerchiefs have become a token of affection for young men and women. When Daiyu burned the manuscript, in addition to burning the poems that revealed her heart, there were those old silk paas given to her by Baoyu, which showed the weight of silk paas in Daiyu's heart.

The formation of "pa" in foreign countries was also earlier than "towel". The earliest papas in ancient Egypt were made of pushgrass to wipe sweat and block the sun. The ancient Greeks made linen sheets and carried them around their waists when they went out. In the 18th century, due to the prevalence of women applying powder, handkerchiefs were stained with colors, which led to the derivation of color palas.
Modern handkerchiefs are not only supplies for cleansing the face and skin, but also become a kind of decoration in Japanese women. Romantic Americans use handkerchiefs as a token of love and give them to their sweethearts. British men put handkerchiefs in suit pockets to show their gentlemanlike demeanor. French handkerchiefs have squares, rectangles, ovals, triangles and polygons, in a variety of shapes. In order to fold easily, King Louis XVI of France ordered in 1785: "The length of each side of the handkerchief is equal", and set the rule of the handkerchief as a square, which is still used today.

 

The change from handkerchiefs to hand towels began around the Han Dynasty. The towel is different from the handkerchief, and the towel appears as a male product. When men are engaged in labor and other activities, the sweating part is not only limited to the face, but also the back, the chest and other places, the small square towel has not met the requirements, and the hands of the labor are not convenient to grasp the napkin, so there is a long towel sewn with thick cloth, which can be casually put on the shoulder when not in use, hanging on the neck or not in the waist. The towel hanging on the neck can also be used as a pad for carrying a shoulder or a car loop when carrying a cart to cushion the pressure and reduce the friction of labor tools on the skin. This kind of towel has been very popular since the Qin and Han Dynasties. The "big belt" tied around the waist of martial arts students we see on the stage of Beijing Opera is the artistic transformation of the towel.
